Independent healthcare company Red & Yellow is proposing to convert Pope’s Manor in Murrelhill Lane into a state-of-the-art integrated dementia centre, where patients can live and be treated at the same time.

The firm will also seek to develop the western side of the manor’s 20-acre grounds, with plans for a neighbourhood of purpose-built homes to be built to accommodate the patients. It is not known yet how many homes or patients are to be accomodated in these proposals.

However Stan Bunker, a resident of the Roebuck Estate, said he is worried that current residents are being “swamped” by the number of housing developments being agreed for in and around the village.

He said: “I don’t think we are going to be able to move with all this housing being developed in Binfield. I think residents are going to be swamped and traffic, particularly in the mornings and early evenings, is just going to be ridiculous.

“Binfield is still a village currently but I would not be surprised if it starts to become more of a town with all this development.

“The infrastructure is definitely not suited to all these new houses and there is no sign of that improving anytime soon.

“I have lived in Binfield for 73 years now but now I just feel like I want to move away from the area.” The healthcare firm is inviting residents to exhibition days at the manor next week to learn more about its plans and gauge local reaction before submitting a formal planning application to Bracknell Forest Council.

The Grade II-listed Pope’s Manor dates from the late 17th century.

The exhibitions will be held on Friday, October 17, from 2-6pm and Saturday, October 18, from 10am-2pm.
