Crown Wood Post Office, based within the McColls convenience store in Crown Row, closes today (Wednesday) at 5:30pm for refurbishment work.

The new look Post Office 'local' will be open an extra 33 hours a week. At present it is open 8.30am-5.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9am-5.30pm on Friday and 9am-1pm on Wednesday and Saturday.

But when the post office reopens after refurbishment on Monday, its new hours will be 6am-6pm Monday and Thursday; from 6am-7.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and 7am-1pm on Sundays.

The McColls convenience store itself will remain open for the duration of the work.

Harmans Water Post Office, in The Square, has recently reopened after undergoing similar work and is now open an extra 31 hours a week.

Mark Jacobs, the Post Office area manager, said: "We know how important Post Office services are to residents in the area of Bracknell and we are confident these vibrant new-style Post Offices at the heart of the community will be popular.

"The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade."
