Gava Mar under 12s travelled over for the tournament that also saw two Wokingham & Emmbrook sides competing.

It was a day that was played in a friendly spirit and the Spanish visitors had a taste of the traditional English weather as the first game was played as heavy rain fell down throughout Berkshire on a gloomy afternoon.

But soon after the weather had turned to bright sunshine, allowing some excellent football to be played and a BBQ for those watching.

The round-robin tournament started with Gava Mar taking on Wokingham & Emmbrook Centurions.

A sluggish start by the Spanish side allowed Centurions to race into a two-goal lead, but Gava Mar fought back and grabbed two goals to level the score and secure a draw.

The following game was the Wokingham & Emmbrook derby as the Centurions took on the Rangers in a friendly encounter.

Both sides were evenly matched throughout and had to settle for a point apiece following a tense game that saw both sides score just once past the opposing keeper.

This left the tournament in the balance going into the final game as a win for either the Rangers or Gava Mar would mean they finish top of the league and tournament winners.

Centurions were top on two points - by virtue of having played a game more - whilst Gava Mar and Rangers were on one point, hoping for the win that would see them crowned champions.

And in a close game, it was the visitors who won it as they scored two fantastic goals to seal a 2-0 victory and ensure they topped the table on four points.

Speeches were made in Spanish and English during the trophy presentation before all the players and parents settled down to watch Columbia progress to the World Cup quarter-finals.
