Fire crews from Wokingham Road and Whitley Wood were called out to the incident at 3.20pm and quickly extricated the woman out of the Kia which had collided with a brick wall.

She was taken away on a spinal board to an air ambulance which took her to hospital.

The section of Reading Road between Woosehill Roundbout and the Station Road roundabout was closed to traffic for a couple of hours while the scene was made safe but has now reopened.

Wokingham Road firefighter David Grayson said he believed she was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and the extent of her injuries are currently unknown.

* Meanwhile, in an accident in Bracknell earlier this afternoon, firefighters freed two young men - believed to be in their 20s - following a two-car collision in Millennium Way.

The men were cut free from their black BMW by firefighters from Bracknell and Wokingham crews at 2.30pm and were taken to hospital - believed to be the Royal Berkshire Hospital - by an ambulance which had called the firefighters to the scene.

Firefighters spent an hour and a half making the scene safe and no one else was injured in the collision.
