The driver of the BMW - a man in his 20s - pulled over on to the hard shoulder after noticing smoke coming from under the bonnet.

Firefighters from the Slough station got the call out at around 7.15am and used hose reel and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, but could not prevent the car from being destroyed.

The driver was unhurt.

There are currently delays of around 20 minutes according to the Highways Agency with traffic queued back to Junction 10 .

The Highways Agency expect traffic conditions to be back to normal by 9.15am.
