750-home scheme 'would ruin village'

Berkeley Homes has submitted a planning application for the new housing in Warfield, which would be built between Harvest Ride and Forest Road to the east of West End Lane.
It would also include 60 senior living apartments for elderly people – as well as a new two-form entry primary school and a community hub.
However Susan Dyckes, who lives in Goddard Way, has written to Bracknell Forest Council urging it to reject the application.
She said: “I strongly object to this proposal – Warfield has had more than its fair share of new housing and the character of this lovely area will be changed forever.”
“Please look at other alternatives, like the masses of empty office blocks in and around Bracknell.”
Other residents have expressed fears over potential flooding around The Splash, along with increased traffic.
Bracknell Forest Council’s policy framework to provide more than 11,000 homes around the borough by 2026 earmarked 2,200 of these to be built in Warfield.
The Site Allocations Local Plan (SALP) was adopted by the council earlier this year.
Colleen Healy, chairwoman of Warfield Parish Council, said: “We have had regular meetings with Berkeley Homes so they have shown us their ideas all the way through the planning process.
“We have got to look at the intimate detail but the main point is the parish council is looking to get the best possible outcome.”
Berkeley Homes said it would invest in the infrastructure of the area by contributing to a new north/south link road linking Quelm Park roundabout with the Three Legged Cross junction – providing a link between Bracknell and Maidenhead.
It also intends to invest in new community sports and play facilities, plant 14 hectares of woodland and parkland, plus create other informal green spaces through the development.
Andrew Saunders Davies, regional chairman of Berkeley Homes, said: “Our vision is to create a distinctive, high-quality, new community at Warfield.
“Our aim is to provide a wide range of homes which will be centred on improved expanses of open space including a new primary school and community hub.”
