The charity will be at the Princess Square shopping centre from 10am-3pm, showing people five easy-to-follow techniques including the recovery position and CPR.
There will be an opportunity for shoppers to practise techniques. They can also pick up a free pocket-sized first aid guide to carry in case of emergency.
Chris Cook, regional training and community projects manager for St John Ambulance, said: ‘Learning first aid is one of the single most important things you can do in your life.
“You never know when you may need it – at work, at home, in school, playing sport – you just don’t know.
“With basic first aid skills, anyone can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved and what could be more important than saving someone’s life?”
The demonstrations will be held across the UK as part of St John Ambulance’s annual Save A Life September campaign. Research carried out by the first aid charity showed that about 140,000 people die every year in situations where first aid could have given them the chance to live.
