Quince Players prepare for next production in Sunninghill
Published: 6 Sep 2013 17:30
The Quince Players will be performing Alan Bennett’s play Habeas Corpus at Cordes Hall, starting next week, after beginning rehearsals in July.
The group is holding its opening show as a gala night in aid of The Autism Trust, also based in Sunninghill.
Julie Voice, press officer for the drama group, said: “We have got a long history of supporting charities and we’re not professional actors ourselves so our profits really rely on how many people we get seated. Last year we managed to raise more than £1,000 for our dedicated charity.
“We chose The Autism Trust as they are a new charity to the village so we thought we would give them some exposure while encouraging people who ordinarily wouldn’t go to the theatre to come along to the play.”
Under the direction of Julian Hirst, who has been cast in the play a number of times, the group hopes to put on its best show yet.
Mrs Voice said: “We’re all feeling very confident.
“It’s lovely to have such a suberb director who has come from professional work to help us and the cast is so experienced, it will be a fantastic show.” The play features characters who will remind audiences of Carry On favourites Barbara Windsor and Kenneth Connor.
The risque humour of Habeas Corpus is less shocking to audiences than when it was first performed, explained the production’s director Julian Hirst.
He said: “When the play was first performed in 1973 it may have been a bit of a shock but we think audiences are more accustomed to it now and will enjoy the variety of the show.”
The Quince Players will be performing Habeas Corpus from Thursday-Saturday, September 12-14, and Thursday-Saturday, September 19-21, at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance as well on September 21.
Tickets can be bought from Sapphire Estate Agents in Sunninghill. They cost £10 each with concessions available.
