Heat is on to find Berkshire's best young chef
Published: 2 Sep 2013 12:30
The Observer has teamed up with East Berkshire College to find Berkshire's best young chef in a masterchef-style competition.
The contest, for anyone aged 12-19 living in Berkshire, was launched last week and the closing date for entries is Friday, September 13.
With a host of exclusive prizes up for grabs and a chance to cook for some of the UK's top chefs, the competition is an opportunity for talented youngsters to show off their cooking skills.
To enter, young chefs must create their own starter, main course or dessert and email details and a photograph of their dish.
Budding chefs must be able to make their dish from scratch in 90 minutes on their own and the cost of ingredients should not exceed £20. The six finalists will take part in a live cook-off at Langley College, in Station Road, on Thursday, October 3, and will try to wow a judging panel including award-winning pastry chef and consultant for Waitrose, Will Torrent, from Iver, Observer editor Tim Cole, and a well-known Michelin-starred chef, yet to be announced.
The winner will get the chance to go behind-the-scenes at the prestigious Oakley Court Hotel, Windsor, where they will see how a professional kitchen is run and receive a masterclass from the hotel's head chef.
They will then enjoy a complimentary three-course meal in the hotel's award-winning restaurant with their parents.
The winner will also take away a collection of baking accessories worth more than £75, courtesy of Sainsbury's Uxbridge Road store and The Pampered Chef, along with a Heston Blumenthal-signed cookbook courtesy of The Fat Duck.
Runners-up will receive a signed celebrity cookbook.
To enter the competition, email the following information to email@example.com
- Name of your dish
- Recipe (how you made the dish)
- List of ingredients (including quantities where possible)
- Photo of your finished dish
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Address (including postcode)
- A contact telephone number
Terms and conditions apply: Entrants must be aged between 12 and 19 years old on 3/10/13. Selected finalists will be required to make their dish in a live final on 3/10/13 at Langley College and take part in publicity. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. Judges' decision is final. Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash. Employees and current students (2013-14) of East Berkshire College cannot enter. Employees of Oakley Court Hotel and BMG cannot enter. By entering this competition you agree to East Berkshire College contacting you with details of further promotions or courses in the future. BMG T&Cs apply.
