MEMBERS of a Bracknell youth club took to the stage to warn people about the dangers of using loan sharks.

About 20 youngsters from The Wayz Youth Club, in Calfridus Way, Harmans Water, put on a theatrical performance at South Hill Park to warn people about using illegal lenders.

The project was a joint initiative between Bracknell Forest Homes and the youngsters, with funding from the Illegal Money Lending Team and Bracknell Forest Homes.

Bottletop Community Drama worked for three months with the youngsters to develop ideas about the issue and put together the performance.

Jason Sparks, 16, took part in the play and said: "I have enjoyed being part of this project as I have learnt things but have also enjoyed working with other people.

"I liked acting and hope to be able to be involved again or be part of Bottletop."

Loan sharks are illegal money lenders who often target low income and desperate families.

Caroline Titley, chief executive of Bracknell Forest Homes, added: "This sends out a really important word of warning not to get involved with loan sharks, who can be lurking as the economic climate is very difficult.

"I'm extremely impressed and congratulate the young cast who have learned a lot about the subject, worked really well together and gained confidence to put on an excellent performance with meaningful messages.

"Bracknell Forest Homes has benefits advisers to offer support and information to customers who may be having some financial difficulties and we also have employment projects for those looking to get into work."

The performance took place on May 30.
