THE Royal Borough is to hold a special council meeting to discuss the next steps in the fight against the transfer of services from Heatherwood Hospital.

The meeting in The Pavilion at Ascot Racecourse is due to take place on Thursday, May 9, at 7.30pm which Windsor MP Adam Afriyie is expected to attend.

Members of the public will be allowed to speak at the meeting.

At its meeting on Tuesday, March 26, the former NHS Berkshire Primary Care Trust board approved plans to move the minor injuries unit at Heatherwood to the planned new urgent care centre at Brants Bridge, Bracknell; replace Heatherwood's Ward 8 with community and hospital-based rehabilitation services and permanently close Heatherwood's Ascot Birth Centre.

The Royal Borough has a petition on its website which calls on the council to do everything in its power to prevent the service cuts.

To sign the petition visit http://petitions.rbwm.gov.uk/SaveHeatherwood/.
