TWO hospital trusts have decided to move a step closer to merging. Following initial investigation, Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will draw up a detailed business case.

Under the proposal, Frimley Park would take over Heatherwood & Wexham. The latter has struggled financially in recent years.

In a joint statement Mike Aaronson, chairman of Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Mike O'Donovan, chairman of Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We are delighted to be moving forward with this potential acquisition. We will be working with our colleagues over the course of the summer to explore the opportunities that an acquisition might provide.

"This is likely to take several months and at the appropriate time we will provide a further progress report."

Would this be a good move for Wexham and Heatherwood hospitals? Please comment below.
