Firefighters clear smoke from Boots in Wokingham
FIREFIGHTERS from Wokingham Fire Station were called to Boots in Wokingham Market Place where smoke was seen billowing from the building.
A smoke cloak had been set off at about 5.55am this morning (Friday 22), which is intended to deter burglars.
Firefighters smashed a hole in the front door to enter the building and then ventilated it, before handing over to police to investigate.
Phil Aldham, assistant manager at the store, said: "I don't think it was a case of attempted theft - I think what's happened is a delivery driver may have triggered it and a member of the public saw the smoke and called the fire brigade.
"Nothing has been taken and we were able to open for business as usual this morning."
