Pride of Bracknell Awards 2013
THE time has come for News readers to nominate our community's unsung heroes, as we launch the Pride of Bracknell Awards 2013.
We are inviting you to nominate worthy candidates for a range of categories - voluntary work, sport, business and education - with the winners of this year's awards announced at a gala dinner and ceremony at Bracknell and Wokingham College on Friday, April 26.
The annual event is being organised by the News, the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) - again the lead sponsor - and other partners.
Simon Williams, editor of the News, added: "As a local newspaper, we are keen to recognise those who make a fantastic contribution within our community. Many of them do so quietly, without asking for attention or even thanks. However, this is your chance to make a fuss of them and please don't assume that someone else will nominate them instead. Fill in the nomination form today!"
Winners last year included our Child of Courage, Charlie Crick, now 14, who has a deteriorating heart and lung condition.
Another winner was Sherrie Bennett, who won the My Hero Award, recognising someone's personal hero. She was nominated by a dozen people, including husband Paul, for her tireless fundraising following the death of her son Declan.
Bracknell Foodbank took the coveted Voluntary Group title for its work coping with a growing demand for free food from those in need.
If you would like to nominate someone please visit our voting form here to find our nomination form and list of categories.

Please vote for Val Scott who runs the egg and cake decorating stall at Bracknell Market. She is probably the longest serving trader in Bracknell. She never misses a week at the market and battles all temperatures down there. She is a credit to people of her mature years! Not only has she been at the market for well over 40 years, she has also spent many years taking in animals and giving them homes at her little farm at Amen Corner.
