LEGOLAND'S owners have been fined more than £23,000 after a worker broke his shoulder and several ribs when he fell from a rollercoaster walkway.
Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd, which owns the Winkfield Road theme park, has been fined a total of £23,200 and ordered to pay £12,115 costs after admitting two breaches of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
On Thursday (7), Reading Magistrates Court heard a 42-year-old worker, from Bracknell, fell more than three metres as he was working to remove two damaged trains from a track on the Dragon Coaster ride.
The court heard he stepped on to a section of walkway that had been removed and replaced, but not secured in position.
Work on the rollercoaster continued the following day but a risk assessment by the company, which said that harnesses and lanyards should have been used, was not followed.
Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd of Market Close, Poole, was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive following the incident on June 1, 2011.
The worker, who asked not to be named, has since returned to work.
