THE Met Office is warning people to 'be prepared' as outbreaks of rain, sleet - and even snow - move across Berkshire this weekend.

Temperatures are also predicted to fall rapidly throughout the weekend, with a risk of icy surfaces and more light snow on Sunday and Monday morning.

Accumulations of up to 2cm will be possible on higher level roads and the public should be aware of a disruption to travel.

In light of the news, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) has urged motorists to drive safely or avoid the roads altogether.

James Keating-Wilkes, communications manager at SCAS, said: "Ensure you have sufficient fuel for your journey and that you have a mobile phone, ice-scraper, de-icer, blanket, shovel, jump leads, warning triangle, hi-viz jacket or vest, hot flask and food in the event of getting trapped.

"If you don't have to go, stay at home."

He also added that stopping distances can be up to ten times longer in ice and snow and gentle manoeuvres are preferable.
