Have your say: Should all youngsters walk to school?

Calm before the rush: Cars are set to clog up the area around Sandy Lane Primary School today as classes resume.
PARENTS who drive their children to school in Priestwood are being urged to walk instead.
Youngsters attending Sandy Lane Primary School are being put at risk by heavy traffic and inconsiderate drivers, claims working mum Katie Pryke.
Mrs Pryke, whose daughter used to attend the school, told the News that parents clog up roads around both Sandy Lane and Garth Hill College at drop-off and pick-up times, parking up on the pavements and obstructing pedestrians and also her home in Shepherds Lane.
But Bracknell Forest Council's transport development manager, Roger Cook, said the council promotes walking and cycling to school and encourages parents to keep car traffic to a minimum.
What do you think? Are you a parent who drives your children to school? If so, why? Do you think they should be walking? Were you near the schools this morning - was it overly busy? Comment below or email news@bracknellnews.co.uk

Report commentI live opposite Mrs Pyrke and i have stupid drivers blocked by driveway and even parked on my driveway !
They park in the bus stop and reserve without looking. Nearly knocking people/children. My son nearly got hit by a car doin this !!
I have them turnin round on my drive esp the taxis that drop the children off and my daughter nearly got hit as it reserved up my drive and didnt watch what he was doin and we were coming out of house to collect !!
We tell 'wardens' but they say we cannot do anything!!
But down holly spring they give out fines !! As my son attends there !!
Im nit happy with parents and its worse when its raining - they are dangerous !!

Report commentI live over a quarter of a mile from my daughters school. She has to be at school between 08:45 and 08:55. I have to be at work by 09:00. If I walk my daughter to school, I then have to walk home and collect the car to drive to work in Ascot. My journey to work takes me right past her school.
It is ridiculous to suggest that I should walk her to school in this scenario, and I am sure that I am not the only parent in this position.

Report commentThe SHELL Garage in Crowthorne is a joke. The forecourt is far too small and when you are waiting to try and get petrol you hold up the entire road if you have to wait for a car to move. Surely there should be plans for another petrol station in the CROWTHORNE area. I live in Ardwell Close near the railway station and the only petrol station close is the one mentioned. One day there will be a bad accident outside that garage. Thanks for letting me have a moan !
