LIVE entertainment every evening until Christmas is adding some festive cheer to Wokingham. The town's first live advent calendar sees a different entertainer performing at venues around the town centre at 6.15pm each day.

Musicians, artists, poets and actors are all taking part to excite residents in the run-up to Christmas.

The list of locations where events are taking place has been announced, though the identity of performers is being kept a secret.

One of the highlights of the performances is a live nativity play, which takes place at Elms Field on Friday, December 23.

The spectacular show will feature live animals including a donkey, and will be presented by the Anglican Church of the White House School.

The Living Calendar initiative is being organised by Wokingham Town Council and local group MoreArts

Cllr Gwyneth Hewetson, chairwoman of the town council's arts and culture committee, said: "We've always wanted to do something that follows on from the [winter] carnival and this year we've finally cracked it."

There will be charity collections at each event. The four charities to benefit are: Wokingham Rotary Club, WADE (Wokingham and District Association for the Elderly), More Arts and JAC (Just Around the Corner), which aims to give hope to young people living in Wokingham borough.

After they have performed, videos appear on an online Advent calendar. Visit http://advent.wokingham-tc.gov.uk/index2.php
