Rescue mission for model boat on trans-Atlantic voyage
A SUNNINGHILL man is appealing for help rescuing a model sailing boat after it crashed into The Needles during a trans-Atlantic crossing attempt.
Robin Lovelock is asking anyone with a boat available for a rescue mission tomorrow (Saturday) to contact him.
The unmanned 4ft-long boat, directed by a solar-powered GPS system, set sail from Barton-on-Sea, Hampshire, on Tuesday, November 27, bound for the east coast of America.
But less than 24 hours later, Snoopy Sloop - so named because it has a Snoopy figure on the bow of the boat - had swept into Alum Bay in the Isle of Wight.
No-one has managed to sail a model boat across the Atlantic before.
Mr Lovelock is appealing for anyone with a boat available for a rescue attempt to email him on gpss@compuserve.com
