Bank robbers flee empty-handed
QUICK-thinking security men thwarted a bank robbery in Crowthorne.
Two offenders smashed their way into Nationwide, in High Street, between 6.40-7pm yesterday (Wednesday) while security officials were filling up the hole-in-the-wall ATM.
The couragous men were able to activate the smoke deterrents in the building, forcing the robbers to leave empty-handed.
Det Sgt Peter Wall, from Maidenhead CID, said: "I know that there were a number of people in the area around the time of the incident and I am keen to hear from anyone who saw suspicious behaviour or anyone who saw the men leave the area in a dark-coloured motor vehicle."
Anyone with any information should contact Maidenhead CID via 101 or, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
