THE number of children arrested by Thames Valley Police is falling drama-tically, according to new figures.

Research by the Howard League for Penal Reform figures shows officers made 6,539 arrests of people aged 17 or under in the region - which includes Bracknell and Wokingham - during 2011.

This compares with 12,288 in 2008.

Frances Crook, chief executive of the Howard League for Penal Reform, said: "It is very pleasing to see that Thames Valley Police is arresting fewer children than it has in the past. I hope this trend continues".
