CONSERVATIVE candidate Anthony Stansfeld has picked up the most first round votes in nine of the ten districts declared so far in the Thames Valley police and crime commissioner election.

The candidate is in front in Bracknell, Wokingham, Chiltern, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, South Bucks, South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse and his home district of West Berkshire, where he is a councillor.

Labour's Tim Starkey is ahead in Oxford. He is also thought to be in front in Reading, but the result is still to be officially declared.

If a candidate does not pick up more than 50% of the votes across the region, there will be a another round of counting, with voters' second preferences coming into play,
