THE Forestry Commission has confirmed that a case of ash dieback disease has been found on a tree in Berkshire.

The devastating fungus, which kills ash, has been spreading across the country from East Anglia and this week the Forestry Commission has been carrying out random surveys across the country.

Tonight (Wednesday) Defra said it would not disclose the exact location, though its map of confirmed cases appear to show it is near Maidenhead.

Conservationists have been checking ash trees, which are native to Britain, against details of symptoms and photographs on the Forestry Commission website.
