Older people's home to shut

COUNCILLORS have agreed to close an older people's home despite more than 1,000 people signing a petition calling for it to be saved.
Bracknell Forest Council's Executive voted tonight (Tuesday) that Ladybank Older Persons' Residential Home in Birch Hill should shut. It said its four remaining residents would be helped to find alternative accommodation and where possible the 24 staff would be redeployed.
The council says the 1970s building would need significant investment to bring it up to modern standards and a model of providing care at home where possible would be a better and more efficient service. However, a campaign by relatives and the Health Advisory Group said the home is needed to cater for an increasing older population.
