Going to extreme lengths for charity
TWO girls sent 'locks' of love to young people suffering from cancer when they chopped off more than seven inches of their hair.
Sunninghill friends Eleanor Fettes and Issy Clements, both 14, donated their tresses to the My Little Princess charity, which makes wigs for youngsters who have lost their hair as a result of cancer and conditions such as alopecia.
The year nine Charters School pupils walked out of Sunninghill's The House salon on Monday morning last week with new barnets after Eleanor had seven and Issy nine inches of hair cut off.
Eleanor's mum, Ruth, said: "They were very nervous when they went into the salon, Eleanor looked very pale! But when it came to it they were determined to have it done, and it looks lovely.
"I think they now both want to do other things to help children with cancer in general. They are thinking about their next project and I'm sure they will let their imaginations run riot."
The pair, who have a friend who has alopecia, have been growing their tresses for a year after they were inspired to help people suffering with cancer. They have been collecting sponsorship money from their classmates and friends and hope to raise £500 to help pay for the making of the wigs. To mark Valentine's Day, Eleanor and Issy wrapped the hair up in heart-patterned tissue paper to send off to the charity. To sponsor the pair visit www.justgiving.com/Eleanor-Fettes
