Historial insight for pupils
ANCIENT history came to life for school children among the Greek artefacts in the British Museum.
Year Three children from Dolphin School in Hurst paid their annual visit to the museum as part of their classical studies and art/architecture programme.
The youngsters, aged seven and eight at the co-education independent day school are learning about ancient Athens and its goddess Athena.
At the museum, they learnt about Greek temples and the Parthenon and also sketched centaurs on metope panels that form part of the Elgin Marbles.
They also studied Athens' Panathenaic Games, which included the same events as the Ancient Olympics.
The children had already made pots in art classes - based on the jars of olive oil which the victors were awarded - and are now planning their own games in the summer in honour of the London Olympics.
