FIREFIGHTERS are highlighting the importance of smoke alarms following a small blaze today (Monday).

A crew from Bracknell fire station rushed to a house in Francis Chichester Close, Ascot, at 4.09pm after a towel that was hanging on a door caught alight because of the heat from a nearby light fitting.

Watch manager Miles Cooper said: "The house did have fire alarms, but I would like to reiterate the importance of have working smoke alarms and testing them weekly.

"Small fires like this can get out of control very quickly."

He added that only the door and the light fitting was damaged in the blaze.
