STAFF, students and parents showed they are no knitwits by knitting a blanket about mathematical factors.

More than a dozen people have been involved in the Maths Community Project at Ranelagh School in Bracknell, creating a blanket representing the numbers 1 to 100.

Maths teacher Yvonne Scott, from the school in Ranelagh Drive, said: "After seeing a blanket called 'Counting Pane' designed by Woolly Thoughts, a colleague, Liz Smith, and I were inspired to knit a version of our own to have in our school for students to use as a lesson resource when learning about factors.

"We realised that this would be a large project and so I suggested that perhaps we could use this idea to allow students and parents to realise that mathematics could be creative and produce something beautiful to look at as well as representing the patterns.

"We are hoping that this will help students to understand and become interested in factors and primes."

She added: "We first met in September 2009 to discuss what we would want the blanket to look like. We wanted it to be different from the 'Counting Pane' but at the same time wanted to be able to represent the numbers 1 to 100 and the number of factors each number had.
