Hats off to Ladies' Day
IT WAS hats off to style and sometimes sheer ingenuity during Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot today (Thursday).
Millinery creations ranged from a single flower or feather, to whimsical fascinators, broad-brimmed hats and even hard-wearing headgear made of Lego bricks.
It is traditional for racegoers to try to guess what colour hat The Queen will wear on the day - which this year was pale lilac.
Celebrities were also out in force for the highlight of the social calendar, including Bruce Forsyth, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Miss England, Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge.
Mr Forsyth said: "I just come here for a lovely day out. This is the perfect Ascot day."
The main race of the day is the Gold Cup, which was won by outsider Rite Of Passage, in a close victory over Age Of Aquarius.
