THE Samaritans celebrated the opening of a new office with an open day for those interested in the service.

The Mayor of Bracknell Forest cllr Bob Wade officially opened the refurbished office, in Mount Pleasant, on Friday, and visitors were shown round the building and given information about the charity.

The Bracknell, Wokingham, Ascot and District Samaritans is run by volunteers and has been supporting callers from the surrounding area for 30 years.

David Rossiter, branch chairman, said: "It has gone pretty well today.

"We have spent more than £24,000 for the refurbishment and we had to raise the money ourselves. The infrastructure was a real mess so this has created a nicer working environment for our volunteers."

The Bracknell centre is one of 203 Samaritans centres throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
