More entrants wanted for charity blind drive

ORGANISERS of a blind drive which is hoping to raise funds for Guide Dogs are still appealing for entrants.

The event, on Saturday, October 4, will take place at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) in Crowthorne.

Wokingham town mayor Cllr Brian Willis will be taking part in the blind drive and skid pan but so far only 40 other people have signed up for the drive and 80 are needed for the fundraiser to break even and fill up all the slots.

Participants will be

blind-folded and will drive around the 3km TRL track in a dual-controlled car.

As well as raising funds to train Guide Dogs it is hoped the challenge will raise awareness of the needs of blind and partially-sighted people and of visual impairment as a whole.

Sponsored drivers will also be able to test their skills on the skid pan, an area of track sprayed continually with water, or be a passenger in a fast car completing a lap on a banked circuit at more than 85 miles an hour.

To take part in the drive entrants need to raise a minimum sponsorship of £110 which includes the blind drive run, skid pan, fast track and lunch.

An on-site catering unit will provide light refreshments and people can practise before the event on a giant Scalextric track.
