Firefighters from Wokingham, Wokingham Road and the water rescue unit from Caversham Road rushed to the ford near Hurst at around 9.20am after the car got stuck in the 4ft deep water.

Luckily the woman managed to climb out of the red Renault Clio before it was washed 30 metres down stream and lodged on some trees and was given medical treatment by paramedics at the scene.

Firefighters said it was not clear why the woman drove into the deep water, but have contacted Wokingham Borough Council to request warning signs be put up to stop other drivers being trapped at the ford.

Fire crews left the scene at around 10.40am.
