Four crews were called to a house fire in New Wokingham Road at 12.40am after the building caught alight.

The building, which is undergoing construction work, suffered structural damage, with crews from Camberley, Bracknell, Wokingham and Crowthorne attending.

It was believed there had been someone 'house sitting', but it was later confirmed they were safe and sound elsewhere.

During the blaze, two more crews from Mortimer and Windsor were called to a burst water main in the same road, only about 200 yards away from the house fire.

They prevented water from entering nearby properties. The two incidents are not believed to be connected.

Police closed the road when the water main burst, not opening it again until 10.06am, after the incident was resolved.
