PRE-SCHOOL children enjoyed a day out seeing fire fighters and paramedics in action.

Around 20 pupils from The Ark Pre-school in Crowthorne, aged between two and four, took part in interactive demonstrations from both the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the South Central Ambulance Service.

The children walked from their school, next to Crowthorne Baptist Church, to Crowthorne Fire Station where they were met by fire and ambulance crews.

Fire fighters and showed the children how they support the community and what to do in an emergency.

Sarah Webb, the school's admin, said that the event was enjoyed by all the children who took part.

"The day went really well and the interactive demonstrations went down a treat with the children," she said.

"It is very important that children understand the role of the emergency services from a young age. They need to know that they are there to help us not to scare us.

"For this reason the school needs to have strong links with the emergency services so that our pupils have a better understanding of the world around them.

The idea of taking the children to watch interactive demonstrations came about through paramedic Carl Mansell, who is one of the school's parent representatives.
