VANDALS have smashed their way into a vehicle used by a Crowthorne dive centre in a "senseless" attack over the weekend.

The windows of a blue van used by top UK diving school Divecrew were destroyed on Saturday night in a mindless incident which has left the centre's instructors and staff struggling to juggle their commitments to dive training and charity work.

Instructors used the van to cart their high-tech equipment to jobs including work to rehabilitate injured British veterans but are now left sharing just one van and facing the costs of repairing the second van.

Divecrew owner Martin Weddell described the attack as "mindless and very, very sad" and said: "Madness! Senseless! We opened the dive centre at 08.30am on Sunday to find some idiot of a vandal had smashed our blue van windows. No attempted stealing of the van, just smashed the windshields.

"Both of our dive centre vans are in high demand at the centre not just for servicing PADI courses but also the charity work we undertake.

Bracknell News:

"We do a lot in the community for charity with the pinnacle being working with the injured British troops and our work with Deptherapy. Some irresponsible individual has now put the van out of action and cost the centre money. Mindless and very, very sad."

Mr Weddell urged anyone with information to contact Thames Valley Police or Divecrew itself and promised any information would be taken in the strictest confidence.

"We would ask everyone reading this to search their soul If you are the individual concerned who caused the damage I would like to meet you to find out why you would commit such an act and affect the work of small business working in the community and with charities," he added.

The attack is believed to have taken place between 7pm on Saturday, July 23 and 8.30am on Sunday, July 24.
