Residents living in Babbage Way and Neuman Crescent have complained to Bracknell Forest Council over the past few months that cars parked along roads near their homes made the place dangerous for both other road users and children playing in the neighbourhood.

The council has since reacted, painting double yellow lines along parts of the two roads on Friday, March 13, to prevent vehicles from parking along the roads in the area.

Residents had claimed that the estate had become quite dangerous as a result of the sheer volume of parked cars, as it created a number of blind spots for drivers along the winding roads in the neighbourhood.

Annmarie Harris, who lives in Neuman Crescent, said: “The 20mph speed limit is generally ignored by people using our neighbourhood as a shortcut. Most of the estate has winding roads and they are very narrow, which is then not helped by people parking their cars on the road.

“When people park on both sides they ruin the grass verges and make it near on impossible to navigate. I drive a Ford Fiesta and I struggle to get through sometimes.

“Deliveries from supermarkets often have to back up and try another way to get through. God forbid anyone might have needed an ambulance or a fire engine as previously, on some nights, they would have had no hope of getting through.

“I think it’s good the council has decided to add extra restrictions to parking around here. It will really make a difference and make our estate a safer place.” Councillor Chris Turrell, Bracknell Forest Council executive member for planning and transport, said: “The council was approached by residents worried about cars being parked on the corners of roads at Babbage Way and Neuman Crescent, making it difficult for drivers to see as they tried to negotiate these junctions.

“Our engineers visited the area several times and agreed that the parking situation was unsafe, so we are painting double yellow lines at these junctions to improve safety and visibility.”
