The number of those aged 18-24 out of work has fallen by around 40% in both areas since March 2014 - due in part to the increased support with skills and experience.

In total there are 500 less people claiming job seekers allowance in Bracknell than there were at this time last year, it now stands at 683 claimants signalling a 42% drop. In Wokingham the number of jobless fell by a third, with only 605 people now signed on to out-of-work benefits.

The figures, broken down by local authority, reflect the area’s 'buoyant’ economy, according to job centre manager Carol Laughlin.

“We have been focusing on schemes which give people the chance to get some experience in a work place and at an interview, and not only young people. It’s also good for people with health problems who are trying to get back into the job market.

“We have been enjoying such a buoyant economy and we are lucky in our part of the country that the economy has grown and this has impacted the jobs figures.” The fall in joblessness continues a trend seen from 2010. Wokingham has experienced a 68% fall in unemployment over the past five years - with 1,257 fewer people out of work while Bracknell Forest’s figures show a 66% drop on 2010, with 1,333 more people now in work.

Nationally, youth employment has made the headlines by rising by more than 110,000 over the past year, with youth unemployment falling by around 20%. In Bracknell there are 90 fewer young people claiming job seekers and in Wokingham it is 70 fewer on the benefits count.

The unemployment rate in Great Britain was highest in the North East (7.7%) and lowest in the South West and the South East (4.5%)
