Hazel Kent scooped the ‘Good Citizen’ award for her efforts in helping disabled customers and her campaign to try and retain Bracknell’s market at another indoor location. She now helps to run the Sanctuary Barn & Café in Binfield, another community facility where people can pick up items such as fresh fruit and veg, cake making accessories and sewing products.

Mrs Kent said: “It was very nice to be thought of in that way and it was a really nice evening. It was exceptionally lovely and I have to say the award was totally, totally unexpected – it never ever crossed my mind. It was a great award!” Nominations continue to roll in for the annual event – organised by the Bracknell News, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) and a host of other sponsors and there’s still time for you to choose your heroes and community champions.

News reporter Rhodri Andrews said: “Nominations have been coming in thick and fast and it is really pleasing to see the wide range of people and groups that have been put forward. However, we still want to encourage more people to nominate their unsung heroes and champions in their community.

“This really is their chance to shout about the people they feel really deserve to be recognised.” The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 23.

Judges will then shortlist nominations for the awards, and the successful nominees will be invited to attend the presentation evening on Friday, April 17 with a guest.

Readers can view a full list of award categories or submit nominations by visiting www.bracknellnews.co.uk/bracknellpride Alternatively, nominations can be posted to the News by using the paper nomination form in each week's edition of the Bracknell News, out Wednesdays.
