Elderly tenants of Edmonds Court in Sandy Lane, Bracknell, have said more than 20 small holes and large craters have blighted the sheltered accommodation’s car park and driveway for the past few months, with no sign of them being fixed.

Doreen Fernley, 81, has rallied her neighbours – all over the age of 75 – to sign a petition asking private housing association Bracknell Forest Homes (BFH) to repair the car park before an accident occurs, with 28 residents signing.

She believes the potholes have just been getting worse in the past few months and has accused BFH of putting costs before the safety of its residents.

She said: “There are some really big potholes in the car park and it is very dangerous for people to walk there, especially for us who are elderly residents living here. We have had two near slips and I think it is just an accident waiting to happen.

“If any of us have an accident it would be the end of us. We just could not survive if we suffered a broken leg or something more serious. We have been told in the past it would cost too much money so I’m worried the housing association is just putting money before the health of its residents.” BFH say it is trying to gather quotes in order to repair the car park.

Chris Withnall, assets and business development director for BFH, said: “Maintaining and improving the condition of our properties is very important to us for the welfare of our customers and to keep homes in a good state of repair.

“Edmonds Court residents raised a repair call to fill in potholes at their car park. After inspecting the car park, it will be necessary to resurface the whole car park.

“We are seeking quotes from suitable contractors and will commission this work as soon as possible. The anticipated start date will be April 2015 and we will be keeping residents updated.”
