More than 1,800 people from across the borough were asked a series of questions about their lives in Bracknell Forest and what they thought about Bracknell Forest Council last autumn.

The results of the survey, carried out by the council, showed 94 per cent of respondents said that people from different backgrounds got on well together, with 87 per cent of people being satisfied with the borough as a place to live. Only five per cent were dissatisfied with the area.

Nearly two thirds, 65 per cent of people, were satisfied with the way the council runs things in the borough, which represents an increase of 15 per cent within the last five years, while only 11 per cent were dissatisfied with how it operated.

Nearly six in 10 residents, 59 per cent, believed the council offered value for money. In 2012 the figure stood at 55 per cent and in 2009 it was 35 per cent.

The borough’s parks and countryside, access to nature and its sports and leisure facilities featured the most regularly as people’s favourite three things in the area.

In regards to improvements, respondents said road maintenance, the town centre’s regeneration and communication are all things the council needs to work on.

Timothy Wheadon, the council’s chief executive, said: “This year we carried out a much more targeted survey so the results are truly representative of the views of people living in Bracknell Forest. While this does make comparing statistics more difficult, it is clear to see that, regardless of the change in methodology, the overwhelming majority of people enjoy living in Bracknell Forest.

“I’m also pleased to see that satisfaction rates in general appear to be going up and that 94 per cent of people believe the borough is somewhere where everyone, regardless of their age or background, gets on well together.” Cllr Paul Bettison, council leader, said: “I’m really pleased although not particularly surprised that so many people enjoy living in Bracknell Forest. It truly is a great place to live and I’m delighted that the overwhelming majority of residents agree.

“It’s also pleasing to see that our residents believe the council provides value-for-money services and that they are largely satisfied with the way Bracknell Forest Council runs things.

“We know we are not perfect. In a time of austerity and shrinking resources, most councils would love to get the satisfaction levels we have in Bracknell Forest. The fact that they are getting better with each survey also tells me we must be doing some things well.

“These results are very interesting as they will help us shape our services in the future. We are delighted with the results but know there are always things we can do to make the borough and our services even better. Thanks to all those who took part in the survey.” In December, Bracknell Forest was ranked 16th best place to live in the UK in the Halifax annual quality of life survey 2014.
