The Bracknell-based sales development manager has been recognised by his American multi-national company for his prolific efforts in helping to raise tens of thousands of pounds for a good cause.

Nick, 57, from Shaw-cum-Donnington, works for 3M, the diversified technology company formerly called Minnesota, Mining and Manufacture, and organises events on behalf of Canine Partners, which trains puppies as assistance dogs for disabled people.

He has run the Reading Half Marathon with a team since 2011, and last time out raised £20,800.

Nick hopes to increase his team of colleagues, family and friends to 100 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Canine Partners.

His award, the 3M Volunteers Award, came with a £1,000 cheque that he has donated to Canine Partners.

Nick also organises runs, golf days and quiz nights. He said: “I was delighted to receive the award for the funding for CP, which transforms the lives of people with all types of life-changing disability.

“Together with a whole range of 3M employees, family members and friends, we have raised enough money to transform the lives of five disabled people.

“We have provided funds to train fully qualified canine partners for each of them and next year will train two more puppies.” Cat Harvey, the charity’s trust and corporate manager, said: “Nick is a great example that, with determination and a positive attitude, you can really make a difference.” In recognition of his efforts, the registered charity will name one of its puppies after him.

l Canine Partners is based in Heyshott, Midhurst, West Sussex, and a recent BBC Lifeline appeal raised more than £30,000 for it.
