The annual competition attracted some impressive entries this year, including some ‘particularly tall’ sunflowers.

In the best front garden in the individual category was awarded to Mark Leaver, of Shakespeare Way at the presentation in Warfield Parish Council’s offices. The council chose Whitegrove Primary School’s garden as the best one from an organisation, and some younger representatives from the school attended to accept the certificate.

Warfield’s Grow and Share group, a gardening club, won the tallest sunflower in the adults category with its 3.1m-high flower. But Charlotte and William Drage did even better with their flower reaching a grand height of 3.40m, easily winning the children’s category. Colleen Healy, chairwoman of the parish council, said: “Warfield Parish Council was again very impressed with the standard of entries to the Competition – the sunflowers were particularly tall this year.

“We are already looking forward to 2015 when we hope to encourage even more residents to enter.”
