Four judges representing the long-established Wokingham Horticultural Association officiated at the results presentation, which attracted 120 people.

They decided on the gold, silver and bronze winners, and highly commended others in a variety of categories covering individuals, schools, businesses and allotments.

Successful gardeners were also handed cash prizes in the form of vouchers.

The contest included children under the age of 11 and senior citizens living in care homes.

Results were announced at the Town Hall on Wednesday last week.

Trophies were presented by the Town Mayor Cllr Martin Bishop, accompanied by Mayoress Mrs Yvonne Bishop.

Cllr Mark Ashwell, chairman of the Town Council’s amenities committee, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who entered this year’s competitions.

“The challenging weather conditions throughout 2014 were difficult for every gardener. I urge everyone who takes pride in their gardens to enter in 2015.” He said the Bloom judges were particularly impressed by the scope of the competitions and standard of the entries.

Gold winners received engraved trophies which they can hold for a year.

The event was sponsored by funeral directors A B Walker and Son Ltd.

Ten schools took part in the contest, along with 20 businesses, 26 individuals, 10 residential care homes and 340 allotment holders.
