The parade of shops, in Market Street, have suffered from the impact of the work since contractors moved in on August 11.

Last month, the News reported that takings of the businesses dropped drastically as resurfacing works meant customers could not use the free parking spaces outside. Despite the reopening of four of the spaces since then by Bracknell Forest Council, shop owners say they and their customers are still unhappy with the situation.

Lorraine Hook, manager of Anne-Marie’s Bakery, said; “It seems they’re doing nothing there.

“All of the cones are still there, all of the barriers are still up.

“Customers are all moaning that they can’t park, some don’t bother coming in at all and just drive by, and we haven’t heard anything from the council about it.” The continuing struggle with roadworks has only stoked the flames over last year’s massive increase in business rates, where the council increased them by up to 660%. Owners have continued their attempts to have their rates reduced, but again say they have had no response from the council, whose contractor Ringway is carrying out the work.

In a statement, Bracknell Forest Council said: “Market Street still has some work to be completed on it, including some resurfacing of the road, which is due to be carried out this month. Businesses are due to receive a letter from our engineers this week giving them an update on the resurfacing work.

“We again apologise for any inconvenience and are doing everything possible to reduce the impact this work may have on businesses.”
