The 17-year-old, from Ascot, has so far survived six weeks in the Bake Off tent and, now with more than 21,000 Twitter followers, the teenager is one of the viewers' favourites.

In the latest episode (September 10) she impressed judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood with her signature bake, a dark chocolate and almond liquer savarin - a take on the traditionally German Gugelhupf.

She came fourth in the technical challenge, a Swedish Princess Cake, and impressed with her tasty chess-themed chocolate and salted caramel Dobos Torte, despite its untidy appearance.

She was never in the running to be eliminated, with the judges deliberating over sending either Brighton baker Kate Henry or builder Richard Burr home.

In the end, they decided it was too close to call and chose not to send anyone home.

Martha, from Ascot, was busy studying A-levels in Food Technology, Maths and Chemistry while filming the show, and starts Year 13 at the school as head girl this month.

In this week's episode, the bakers will be tested to make parcels and pasties, whereas the technical challenge tasks them to make a pastry that none of the bakers have heard of. Finally, the show stopper task sees the bakers making two types of eclairs to get through to the quarter final.

The Bake Off pits amateur bakers against each other as they show off their best custards, cakes and biscuits, with one contestant evicted each week. It is shown every Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
