A COMMUNITY pool could be given a new lease of life as it starts to feel the strain of more than 20 years of use.

The Jocks Lane Recreation Ground pool could be replaced with a smaller paddling pool and a splash pad under plans being put out to public consultation by Bracknell Town Council.

The paddling pool would be around 1.8m in diameter and dip down to a maximum depth of 150mm in the centre while the splash pad would be made up of a series of water jets in the ground and a central post.

Russell Reeve, Bracknell Town Council clerk, said: “We think it ticks most of the boxes, but we want to make sure it is what the residents want too as it is a well used community facility.”

The current pool has been in operation for more than 20 years and is starting to feel the strain.

Mr Reeve added: “At the moment we have to check the chemical levels of the pool every couple of hours – it is very high maintenance along with regular repair costs due to the materials it is made out of and it can only really be opened in July and August after doing a lot of cleaning at the start of the year.

“We have looked at several options and this is a good middle option.”

The new facility could be ready by next summer if given the go ahead with construction beginning in September after the busy summer season.

The exact costs of the new pool and the splash pad are yet to be confirmed.

Comments about the proposal can be made in person at the council offices, emailing enquiries@bracknelltowncouncil.gov.uk or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Bracknelltowncouncil until Tuesday, July 29, when a decision is expected to be made at a Bracknell Town Council Environmental Services Committee meeting held in the council chamber at Brooke House. The meeting will start at 7.30pm and is open for the public to attend.
