FURNITURE removed from Bracknell town centre during the ongoing regeneration work is set to be given a new lease of life.

Some ‘street furniture’ has now been installed in the park at Calfridus Way, Harmans Water.

Two seats have been relocated in the park, and a further seat is due to be placed at St Paul’s United Reform Church, in Ralph’s Ride, with bins a possibility for the future.

Cllr Shelagh Pile, from UKIP, who represents Harmans Water, said: “I was keen to ensure that any street furniture that was being removed for the regeneration of the town centre was recycled and put to good use, and with Bracknell Town Council’s help we now have much-needed seating available within the Harmans Water community.

“The seats and litter bins were in such good condition that it seemed such a waste that they would be thrown on the scrap heap.”

However, the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) stressed it has been working with the town and borough councils, as well as schools, to find appropriate homes for the furniture.

Helen Barnett, from BRP, said: “We have always wanted to recycle them so we have worked with different groups to find homes in the town, including flower beds for the project at Jennett’s Park.

“It’s good for the town and we have been doing it throughout and will continue to do so.”

The new additions to the park in Calfridus Way appeared this month and Nigel Dumbrell, vice-chairman of the Harmans Water and The Parks, Martin’s Heron and The Warren Neighbourhood Action Group, said: “Other town councils have now looked into having seating. They look really good and they’re completely fine – I was sitting on one! Anywhere that we can recycle this stuff is good for the town.”

Bracknell Town Council says it is happy to receive suggestions from residents on where they would like a seat to be installed.
