First patient through the doors of Bracknell's New Urgent Care Centre says full hospital is needed

BRACKNELL’S new Urgent Care Centre officially welcomed its first ever patient on Monday.

Scott Morris, from Harmans Water, is treated by nurse practitioner Ines Pozo as the first patient of the Bracknell Urgent Care Centre on Monday morning. He went there after suffering an allergic reaction while on honeymoon.

The first patient through the doors of the new centre at the Royal Berkshire Healthspace in Brants Bridge after it opened at 8am welcomed the service – but said Bracknell really needs a full hospital.

Scott Morris, 41, from Harmans Water, had the honour of being the first person ever treated, after suffering an allergic reaction on his honeymoon in Barbados.

After marrying Kate, his girlfriend of five years, at Trunkwell Mansion House in Reading, Scott and his bride jetted off for 10 days in the sun.

Arriving home, he developed an allergic reaction, causing his lips to swell and a rash to appear. The electrical engineer, from Harmans Water Road, Bracknell, said: “I usually go to Heatherwood, but with wedding plans and being away I had no idea it had closed. My mother-in-law told me she had read in the News to go to Brants Bridge.

“Glad I didn’t go to Heatherwood – it would have been a wasted trip!

“I had absolutely no idea I was the first patient until the receptionist told me! I was seen right away as there was no queue, which was a first.”

The father of two said despite some teething problems, the service was ‘excellent’, but more was needed.

He said: “I think it’s good for the area, we definitely need it.

“Really, we need a full hospital as the way Bracknell is expanding and the developments planned everywhere, I think we should have a hospital to ease pressure on the Royal Berks, but I thought the service was really good.”
