Easthampstead Park Community School, in Ringmead, Great Hollands, has already installed floodlights on its netball and tennis courts, and will improve disabled access to its pavilion.

The facilities are used by members of the public as well as pupils.

The school – which has specialist sports status – announced on Monday that it has secured £107,628 ‘Olympic legacy’ funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

Headteacher Liz Cook said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises and facilities to meet the needs of both our students and local community.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding facility to build on the 2012 Olympics’ legacy.

“We are grateful for Sport England to providing the funding to enable us to realise our plans.”

The school hopes the installed floodlighting will allow longer opening hours and enhanced playability for members of the public.

The second phase of the

work involves the refurbishment of the sports pavilion and changing facilities to make the school disabled compliant and to provide a facility for officials who may have a disability.

A new cafe will also be installed in the pavilion to offer refreshments for supporters and spectators.

The school said its vision is to offer a community and inclusive sport experience, and has contributed £61,000 as part of the project. Sport

England chairman Nick Bitel said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Bracknell.

“With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the South East who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.”

Bracknell MP Dr Phillip Lee added: “It is great news that Easthampstead Park Community School has been successful in securing funding from Sports England.

“The new floodlit courts, sports pavilion and changing and refreshment acilities will benefit both pupils and members of the local community.

“Congratulations, East-hampstead Park on your success, and on achieving a fantastic sports legacy for the Bracknell area.”
