A COUNCIL office has become one of the first locations to join a nationwide coffee packaging recycling scheme.

Warfield Parish Council has joined the scheme – called the Coffee Packaging Brigade and set up by Kenco and TerraCycle – to help prevent coffee packaging waste going to landfill.

A collection box for residents to drop off all kinds of coffee refill bags, coffee bean bags, plastic coffee jar lids, single serve coffee sticks and sachet waste packaging is now situated at the parish council office next to Whitegrove Library near Tesco.

The scheme is all for a good cause too, with every piece of coffee packaging waste earning 2p for the Woodland Trust.

The Warfield drop-off point is one of 100 locations in the UK to start the scheme to enable as much coffee packaging waste to be recycled as possible.

Sheila Collings, deputy clerk at the parish council, who will administrate the collections for the Warfield Coffee Packaging Brigade, said: “It is great that we have been able to house a collection box at the Warfield Parish Council office to enable the people of Warfield to be among the first communities in the UK to be able to recycle their coffee packaging waste.

“We encourage local people to drop off all their coffee packaging waste and tell all their friends and family to do the same. The aim is to not only save as much coffee packaging waste from landfill as possible but also to support the Woodland Trust.”
